Permanent Genuine Activation
------------------------------------

What is it?
If you downloaded the Windows Vista retail version DVD media image, or downloaded pirate leaked RTM edition of Windows Vista, or have MSDN release, you will need to import and install Microsoft signed OEM certificate for corresponding OEM-made computer with BIOS that supports SLA 2.0 and build with the SLIC ACPI table from Dell, HP, Lenovo, Asus, Acer, Sony or other manufacturers. OEM cert is a requirement for OEM style permanent Windows Vista activation, where users need not to activate online if they have the correct and valid OEM product key. If you downloaded an OEM version of Windows Vista DVD media, the digital certificate is already built-in into the distribution disc.

How do I install the OEM Certificates?
You need to check if the BIOS contains SLIC (Software Licensing Description Table) and RSDT tables by using Everest which you will find in this kit. Run the Everest and look for an entry called ‘’SLIC’’and ‘’RSDT’’ in Motherboard>ACPI. (see screen shot)

If your BIOS if not currently supported, try to upgrade and flash the BIOS to latest version from motherboard manufacturer, should this not work, use the BIOS Emulator (VistaActivator 2.1.2) from this Kit.

Vista OEM certificates for the folowing brands are included in this Kit: Acer, Asus, Dell, Emachine, Gateway, HP, Lenovo, NEC and Sony.
Once you confirm that your motherboard and BIOS has SLIC table in ACPI and you have the OEM certification for your brand, you can proceed with one of the two following methods:

Method 1: OEM activation for during Vista installation:
1. Install any of the following Windows Vista edition:
Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate
2. During installation, enter the corresponding edition of OEM product key listed in this file (OemKeys.txt) in the folder Oem Keys of this Kit.
3. After installing Windows Vista, open an elevated command prompt with administrator rights and execute the following command to import the correct OEM cert:
slmgr.vbs -ilc oemcert.xrm-ms ‘’Wait until windows pops up with a conformation-message.’’
For example, to import and install a Dell OEM cert for a Dell computer, execute (assuming the OEM cert is located at C: drive:
slmgr.vbs -ilc c:dell.xrm-ms

Windows Vista should be automatically and permanently activated.

Method 2: OEM activation Vista already installed:
1. Open an elevated command prompt with administrator rights and execute the following command to import the correct OEM cert:
slmgr.vbs -ilc oemcert.xrm-ms ‘’Wait until windows pops up with a conformation-message. ‘’
For example, to import and install a Dell OEM cert for a Dell computer, execute (assuming the OEM cert is located at C: drive:
slmgr.vbs -ilc c:dell.xrm-ms

2.Now type "C:windowssystem32slmgr -ipk ". Wait until windows pops up with a conformation-message.
3. Now type "C:windowssystem32slmgr -ato ‘’Wait until windows pops up with a conformation-message.’’
This will activate OEM version of Windows Vista (or Windows Vista as OEM edition) once the digital certificate is loaded.
You are now activated!

How to install OEM Logos?
Double click on the exe file of the brand you want to install, and confirm with yes at the next pop up window. You are done!

How to install the BIOS emulator (Only for those BIOSs without the SLIC table support!!!)
1. Install Windows Vista WITHOUT a key (if already installed, never mind)
2. unpack the complete folder to a folder, say "C:\vistaloader_2.1.2"
3. go to start > all programs > accessoires and rightclick "Command Prompt" > choose "run as administrator" type "C:\vistaloader_2.1.2\install.cmd".
4. Now REBOOT!
5. go to start > all programs > accessoires and rightclick "Command Prompt" > choose "run as administrator" type: "C:\windows\system32\slmgr -ilc c:\vistaloader_2.1.2\dataoemcert.xrm-ms". (oemcert= you have to choose by yourself which brand you want to use) Wait untill windows pops up with a conformation-message. Be sure to use an UNMODIFIED version of slmgr.
6. now type "C:windowssystem32slmgr -ipk ". Wait untill windows pops up with a conformation-message.
7. now type "C:windowssystem32slmgr -ato Wait untill windows pops up with a conformation-message.

DONE, you're activated!

Enable Aero on SUPPORTED Cards, with no drivers!
------------------------------------------------------------
1. Click on the start menu and type in devmgmt.msc and Enter to load it up.
2. Expand the Display Adapters section and right click on each device and select Uninstall.
3. Reboot the computer.
4. When it restarts, it should install a generic video driver so your screen will still work.
5. Go back into Device Manager, expand the Display Adapters section again and then right click on the device and select Update Driver.
6. This time select Browse My Computer for Driver and then Let me pick it from a list.
7. Go to the Graphics section closest to your Graphics Card and select the Driver closest, too.
8. Hit OK and install the new driver. Restart your computer.
9. Once you have rebooted, right click on your desktop and select Personalize again.
10. Click on Windows Colors and Appearance.
11. Click on Open classic appearance properties for more color options.
12. In the Color Scheme box, select Windows Vista Aero.
13. Hit OK and glass will now load.

Resize Partitions with Vista Disk Management
----------------------------------------------------
1. Click on the Start Button and right click on Computer and select Manage.
2. Expand the Storage section and select Disk Management.
3. Then just right click on any partition and select either Expand or Shrink to change the size of the partition.

Create a Shortcut for Flip 3D
----------------------------------
1. Right click on your desktop and select New and then Shortcut.
2. Copy and paste "RunDll32 DwmApi #105" into the location box and hit Next.
3. Enter in a name for your shortcut and hit Finish.
4. Copy/Cut and Paste your new shortcut where ever you want.

Disable Network Printer Search

1. Hit Alt to bring up the menubar if it is not already on the screen.
2. Click on Tools and select Folder Options.
3. On the View Tab, uncheck Automatically search for network printers.

Super Quick - Quick Launch Bar
---------------------------------------
If you have the quick launch bar you can press the WINDOWS + a number and it will launch that application.

For example: If you have a shortcut for a folder in the first slot you would press WINDOWS + 1 to open that folder.
A second quick launch application would be WINDOWS + 2.

Go to Start > Run and type services.msc and hit enter.

Scroll down and highlight the service you want to adjust, right-click on it and choose Properties.

Now click the stop button and select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar.

A useful tip is that instead of disabling something you are unsure of, set it to manual. When you restart your machine if that service has started then it is probably required by one of your components or software products. If it is still OFF then consider disabling it for greater protection.

Here’s the list of useless services:

Alerter - notifies selected users and computers of administrative alerts. If this service is turned off, applications that use the NetAlertRaise or NetAlertRaiseEx APIs will be unable to notify a user or computer (by a Message Box from the Messenger service) that the administrative alert took place.
Recommendation: Disabled.

Application Layer Gateway Service - Provides support for 3rd party plug-ins for Internet Connection Sharing/Internet Connection Firewall. Required if using Internet Connection Sharing/Internet Connection Firewall to connect to the internet.
Recommendation: Automatic if using ICS, Disabled if not.

Application Management - Used for Assign, Publish and Remove software services. If you can not modify your software installation of certain applications, put this service in to Automatic or Manual.
Recommendation: Disabled

Automatic Updates - Used to check up to see if there is any critical or otherwise updates available for download. It is very important that if you decide to disable this service, you check the Windows Update site often to ensure the latest patches are installed. Background Intelligent Transfer Service - Used to transfer asynchronous data via http1.1 servers. IIS Admin - Not available on Windows XP Home. Not installed by default on Windows XP Proallows administration of Internet Information Services (IIS). If this service is not running, you will not be able to run Web, FTP, NNTP, or SMTP sites, or configure IIS. See also World Wide Web Publishing Service. Not usually required unless you are running a local web server. If you are then make sure that if no external access is required that you firewall protect port 80 to only local traffic! Do not even consider running a public web server unless you are 100% sure of the implications - use an ISP server.

Cannot Access Regedit, How to Fix It?
Many times when working on a computer that has been infected with a virus, trojan, or piece of spyware I find myself with my most important command, Regedit, the Windows Registry Editor being disabled. Virus creators like to disable the Registry Editor so it makes solving the problem and removing the issue difficult.

Sometimes administrators in IT departments may place restrictions on using the regedit command to keep employees from changes things on company computers, but viruses and other issues may also try to disable it.

Listed below you will find the different ways to enable regedit, the Registry Editor.

First we'll begin with the method that appears to work the best.

Method 1 - Enabling the Registry with VBScript

Doug Knox, a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional, has created a VBScript that enables or disables the Registry Editor based on the following location in the registry. Of course, since the registry editor is disabled, you can't change it manually, so Doug wrote a Visual Basic Script to accomplish the task.

HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\System\

Visit Doug's page and download Registry Tools VBScripthttp://www.dougknox.com/security/scr...c/regtools.htm to your desktop, double-click on it to run it, then reboot your computer and try to open the Registry Editor.

If this fix didn't solve your problem, try method two shown below.
Method 2: Use Symantec's tool to reset shell\open\command registry keys

Sometimes worms and trojans will make changes to the shell\open\command registry entries as part of their infections. This will cause the virus to run each time you try to run an .exe file such as the Registry Editor. In these cases, visit Symantec's website and download the UnHookExec.inf http://www.symantec.com/security_res...050614-0532-99 file to your desktop. Right-click on it and choose Install. Restart your computer and then try to open the Registry Editor.

Method 3: Rename Regedit.com to Regedit.exe
Some viruses and other malware will load a regedit.com file that is many times a zero byte dummy file. Because .com files have preference over .exe files when executed if you type REGEDIT in the run line, it will run the regedit.com instead of the real regedit.exe file.

Delete the regedit.com file if its a zero byte file to restore access to REGEDIT. In some cases, such as the W32.Navidad worm, you'll need to rename the REGEDIT file to get it to work.

Method 4: Windows XP Professional and Group Policy Editor

If you have Windows XP Professional and access to an administrative user account, you could change the registry editor options in the Group Policy Editor.
1. Click Start, Run
2. Type GPEDIT.MSC and Press Enter
3. Go to the following location
o User Configuration
o Administrative Templates
o System
4. In the Settings Window, find the option for "Prevent Access to Registry Editing Tools" and double-click on it to change.
5. Select Disabled or Not Configured and choose OK
6. Close the Group Policy Editor and restart your computer
7. Try opening REGEDIT again
Although there are a few other ways, the above ways I have used with great success in re-enabling the REGEDIT command. Most of us will be feeling that the surfing speed which is allocated by our ISP is not enough. People with 64Kbps will think 128Kbps will be cool speed. People with 128Kbps will think 256Kbps will be cool and so on

This tutorial will teach you how to increase your 64Kbps link to 512Kbps or what ever speed you like.

It is very much possible to do this. With a bit of luck if your Cable Internet Service Provider are very uneducated on how this very new technology works and leave some key loopholes open for you to grab vital information on how to accomplish this task. But this tutorial will no guarantee you 100% success.

Okay here we go. I'm going to try to explain you as best as I can to accomplish re-configuring your SB5100, SB4100 or SB3100 cable modem

Theory of cable modem working

All the cable modems when it boots up it will search for an "Image file" where in all configuration like your upload speed limit and download speed limit is defined. This "Image file" is stored in ISP`s TFTP server. Modem will be pre-configured with the ISP`s TFTP server IP address and the Image file name to be downloaded. When the modem boots up it query TFTP server and download Image file from TFTP server according to this this our speed limits will be set.

Our Mission

Get this Image file from ISP`s TFTP server, reconfigure it according to our need and force our modem to download this file from our Computer rather than downloading it from our ISP`s TFTP server.

Steps to accomplish

1). Get cable modems MAC address
2). Get your ISPs TFTP server IP address
3). Get name and path of the "configuration file" or Image file stored in the ISP`s TFTP server.
4). Download Image file from ISP`s TFTP server.
5). Decrypt the Image file which you downloaded from ISP`s TFTP server
6). Modify the Image file
7). Encrypt the modified Image file
8). Change your computer's TCP configuration same as ISP`s TFTP server (i.e. IP address same as ISP`s TFTP server)
9). Host TFTP server in your computer
10). Put Image file in the base directory of your TFTP
11). Restart your modem
12). Changer your PC's IP back as given by ISP
13). OOPS Done. Start surfing with your new speed

1). Get cable modems MAC address

You can either look at the back of the modem to get this MAC Address or you can logon to your Cable modem with your Web Browser hxxp://192.168.100.1/ . This is internal HTML pages stored within your DOCsis cable modem (SB5100, SB4100 and SB3100) that gives you even more vital information on configuration. Unless it is turned off by your ISP. This feature might be totally turned off by your ISP.

2). Get your ISPs TFTP server IP address
3). Get name and path of the "configuration file" or Image file stored in the ISP`s TFTP server.

For getting this vital information you have to do an SNMP walk over your modem. For doing this you can use any one of the tools below

a) There's a program called QUERY.EXE from Weird Solutions which is a BOOTP packet request program that will tell you everything you need to know, without all these extra steps. It will display the Image Filename, TFTP server address, which is really all you need to get started. To use this BOOTP QUERY tool, you need the MAC address of your cable modem

Experts can use Solarwinds SNMP program

Or

c) Beginners can use DOCSIS Diagnosis utility

Or

d) Beginners can use SNMPWALK Tool

use command "snmpwalk 192.168.100.1 public"

NOTE: Use modem's IP address as "192.168.100.1" (SB5100, SB4100 and SB3100) when it asked to provide by any of the above tools. SNMP community is "Public"

Using the above tools you will get the information of your ISP`s TFTP server IP and the name of your "Image file" stored in that TFTP server
All your vital information is stored in this file, One of which is the MaxRateDown 2621440; MaxRateUp 393216;. (This was my ISP settings. Which you can see is similar to what speed I was getting. 40KB/s up and 250 KB/s down)

Among these, the one we need are:
Configuration TFTP Server = 194.*.*..90 (replace this with yours throughout in the doc)
Configuration filename = isrr.bin (replace this with yours throughout in the doc)
And
IP fragments created = 0
IP address.10.xxx.xxx.xxx = 10.xxx.xxx.xxx
IP address.192.168.100.1 = 192.168.100.1 (the IP address of the cable modem, (replace this with yours throughout in the doc)
IP-to-If-index.10.xxx.xxx.xxx = 2

Suggestion: You can do this step by sniffing the modem i.e. "192.168.100.1" when modem boots up. I never tried this method. Try your luck.

4). Download Image file from ISP`s TFTP server.

For doing this got to your command prompt and use below commands with out quotes and bracket.

"C:\tftp -i <ISP`s TFTP server IP> GET <Image filename> <local filename>"

Okay now you got Image file from your ISP`s TFTP server.

5). Decrypt the Image file which you downloaded from ISP`s TFTP server
6). Modify the Image file
7). Encrypt the modified Image file

Use docsis tool which you can download from
CODEhttp://sourceforge.net/projects/docsis

using this program you can decrypt image file change the upload speed and download speed ,save it and encrypt back. Rename this newly created file same as your original image file.

8). Change your computer's TCP configuration same as ISP`s TFTP server (i.e. IP address same as ISP`s TFTP server)

Go to my network place and right click ->properties
Select your LAN Card right click ->property->Internet Protocol (TCP-IP) double click on it and change it to as following values
Configure your TPC's TCP settings as below
IP: 194.*.*.90 (replace with the ISP's TFTP server)
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.100.1 (replace with your cable modem's IP address)

Note: Gateway should be 192.168.100.1 then only your modem can communicate with computer.

9). Host TFTP server in your computer
10). Put Image file in the base directory of your TFTP
11). Restart your modem

Download TFTP Server software and host TFTP server in your computer
You can download TFTP server from:
CODEftp://ftp.ida.net/pub/wireless/tftpd32.exe

Start TFTPD32 server. Go to Settings and set the Security to None. Increase the timeout to 20secs and the Max Retransmit to 6. Choose to translate UNIX filenames. Make sure it's base directory point to where the isrr.bin is (i.e. the image file which you modified). If you need to replicate a directory pathname along with the image file, then make a directory from root that corresponds to the image file pathname.

Restart your modem, and AS SOON as the SEND light goes solid, you should see a receive on your TFTP server i.e. your PC

12). Changer your PC's IP back as given by ISP
13). OOPS Done. Start surfing with your new speed

Now you change your TCP settings of your PC back to normal as given by ISP. (I.e. Put your original IP address and gateway)

Oops you hacked your modem. Test out by downloading some files using DAP (Download accelerator plus)

Note: This speed will remain same until you restart your cable modem. So each time you reboot your modem you have to follow the steps 8,9,10,11 and 12

Since defragging the disk won't do much to improve Windows XP performance, here are 23 suggestions that will. Each can enhance the performance and reliability of your customers' PCs. Best of all, most of them will cost you nothing.

1.) To decrease a system's boot time and increase system performance, use the money you save by not buying defragmentation software -- the built-in Windows defragmenter works just fine -- and instead equip the computer with an Ultra-133 or Serial ATA hard drive with 8-MB cache buffer.

2.) If a PC has less than 512 MB of RAM, add more memory. This is a relatively inexpensive and easy upgrade that can dramatically improve system performance.

3.) Ensure that Windows XP is utilizing the NTFS file system. If you're not sure, here's how to check: First, double-click the My Computer icon, right-click on the C: Drive, then select Properties. Next, examine the File System type; if it says FAT32, then back-up any important data. Next, click Start, click Run, type CMD, and then click OK. At the prompt, type CONVERT C: /FS:NTFS and press the Enter key. This process may take a while; it's important that the computer be uninterrupted and virus-free. The file system used by the bootable drive will be either FAT32 or NTFS. I highly recommend NTFS for its superior security, reliability, and efficiency with larger disk drives.

4.) Disable file indexing. The indexing service extracts information from documents and other files on the hard drive and creates a "searchable keyword index." As you can imagine, this process can be quite taxing on any system.

The idea is that the user can search for a word, phrase, or property inside a document, should they have hundreds or thousands of documents and not know the file name of the document they want. Windows XP's built-in search functionality can still perform these kinds of searches without the Indexing service. It just takes longer. The OS has to open each file at the time of the request to help find what the user is looking for.

Most people never need this feature of search. Those who do are typically in a large corporate environment where thousands of documents are located on at least one server. But if you're a typical system builder, most of your clients are small and medium businesses. And if your clients have no need for this search feature, I recommend disabling it.

Here's how: First, double-click the My Computer icon. Next, right-click on the C: Drive, then select Properties. Uncheck "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching." Next, apply changes to "C: subfolders and files," and click OK. If a warning or error message appears (such as "Access is denied"), click the Ignore All button.

5.) Update the PC's video and motherboard chipset drivers. Also, update and configure the BIOS. For more information on how to configure your BIOS properly, see this article on my site.

6.) Empty the Windows Prefetch folder every three months or so. Windows XP can "prefetch" portions of data and applications that are used frequently. This makes processes appear to load faster when called upon by the user. That's fine. But over time, the prefetch folder may become overloaded with references to files and applications no longer in use. When that happens, Windows XP is wasting time, and slowing system performance, by pre-loading them. Nothing critical is in this folder, and the entire contents are safe to delete.

7.) Once a month, run a disk cleanup. Here's how: Double-click the My Computer icon. Then right-click on the C: drive and select Properties. Click the Disk Cleanup button -- it's just to the right of the Capacity pie graph -- and delete all temporary files.

8.) In your Device Manager, double-click on the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers device, and ensure that DMA is enabled for each drive you have connected to the Primary and Secondary controller. Do this by double-clicking on Primary IDE Channel. Then click the Advanced Settings tab. Ensure the Transfer Mode is set to "DMA if available" for both Device 0 and Device 1. Then repeat this process with the Secondary IDE Channel.

9.) Upgrade the cabling. As hard-drive technology improves, the cabling requirements to achieve these performance boosts have become more stringent. Be sure to use 80-wire Ultra-133 cables on all of your IDE devices with the connectors properly assigned to the matching Master/Slave/Motherboard sockets. A single device must be at the end of the cable; connecting a single drive to the middle connector on a ribbon cable will cause signaling problems. With Ultra DMA hard drives, these signaling problems will prevent the drive from performing at its maximum potential. Also, because these cables inherently support "cable select," the location of each drive on the cable is important. For these reasons, the cable is designed so drive positioning is explicitly clear.

10.) Remove all spyware from the computer. Use free programs such as AdAware by Lavasoft or SpyBot Search & Destroy. Once these programs are installed, be sure to check for and download any updates before starting your search. Anything either program finds can be safely removed. Any free software that requires spyware to run will no longer function once the spyware portion has been removed; if your customer really wants the program even though it contains spyware, simply reinstall it. 11.) Remove any unnecessary programs and/or items from Windows Startup routine using the MSCONFIG utility. Here's how: First, click Start, click Run, type MSCONFIG, and click OK. Click the StartUp tab, then uncheck any items you don't want to start when Windows starts. Unsure what some items are? Visit the WinTasks Process Library. It contains known system processes, applications, as well as spyware references and explanations. Or quickly identify them by searching for the filenames using Google or another Web search engine.

12.) Remove any unnecessary or unused programs from the Add/Remove Programs section of the Control Panel.

13.) Turn off any and all unnecessary animations, and disable active desktop. In fact, for optimal performance, turn off all animations. Windows XP offers many different settings in this area. Here's how to do it: First click on the System icon in the Control Panel. Next, click on the Advanced tab. Select the Settings button located under Performance. Feel free to play around with the options offered here, as nothing you can change will alter the reliability of the computer -- only its responsiveness.

14.) If your customer is an advanced user who is comfortable editing their registry, try some of the performance registry tweaks offered at Tweak XP.

15.) Visit Microsoft's Windows update site regularly, and download all updates labeled Critical. Download any optional updates at your discretion.

16.) Update the customer's anti-virus software on a weekly, even daily, basis. Make sure they have only one anti-virus software package installed. Mixing anti-virus software is a sure way to spell disaster for performance and reliability.

17.) Make sure the customer has fewer than 500 type fonts installed on their computer. The more fonts they have, the slower the system will become. While Windows XP handles fonts much more efficiently than did the previous versions of Windows, too many fonts -- that is, anything over 500 -- will noticeably tax the system.

18.) Do not partition the hard drive. Windows XP's NTFS file system runs more efficiently on one large partition. The data is no safer on a separate partition, and a reformat is never necessary to reinstall an operating system. The same excuses people offer for using partitions apply to using a folder instead. For example, instead of putting all your data on the D: drive, put it in a folder called "D drive." You'll achieve the same organizational benefits that a separate partition offers, but without the degradation in system performance. Also, your free space won't be limited by the size of the partition; instead, it will be limited by the size of the entire hard drive. This means you won't need to resize any partitions, ever. That task can be time-consuming and also can result in lost data.

19.) Check the system's RAM to ensure it is operating properly. I recommend using a free program called MemTest86. The download will make a bootable CD or diskette (your choice), which will run 10 extensive tests on the PC's memory automatically after you boot to the disk you created. Allow all tests to run until at least three passes of the 10 tests are completed. If the program encounters any errors, turn off and unplug the computer, remove a stick of memory (assuming you have more than one), and run the test again. Remember, bad memory cannot be repaired, but only replaced.

20.) If the PC has a CD or DVD recorder, check the drive manufacturer's Web site for updated firmware. In some cases you'll be able to upgrade the recorder to a faster speed. Best of all, it's free.

21.) Disable unnecessary services. Windows XP loads a lot of services that your customer most likely does not need. To determine which services you can disable for your client, visit the Black Viper site for Windows XP configurations.

22.) If you're sick of a single Windows Explorer window crashing and then taking the rest of your OS down with it, then follow this tip: open My Computer, click on Tools, then Folder Options. Now click on the View tab. Scroll down to "Launch folder windows in a separate process," and enable this option. You'll have to reboot your machine for this option to take effect.

23.) At least once a year, open the computer's cases and blow out all the dust and debris. While you're in there, check that all the fans are turning properly. Also inspect the motherboard capacitors for bulging or leaks. For more information on this leaking-capacitor phenomena, you can read numerous articles on my site.

Following any of these suggestions should result in noticeable improvements to the performance and reliability of your customers' computers. If you still want to defrag a disk, remember that the main benefit will be to make your data more retrievable in the event of a crashed drive.

CAM

A cam is a theater rip usually done with a digital video camera. A mini tripod is sometimes used, but a lot of the time this wont be possible, so the camera may shake. Also seating placement isn't always idle, and it might be filmed from an angle. If cropped properly, this is hard to tell unless there's text on the screen, but a lot of times these are left with triangular borders on the top and bottom of the screen. Sound is taken from the onboard microphone of the camera, and especially in comedies, laughter can often be heard during the film. Due to these factors picture and sound quality are usually quite poor, but sometimes we're lucky, and the theater will be fairly empty and a fairly clear signal will be heard.

TELESYNC (TS)

A telesync is the same spec as a CAM except it uses an external audio source (most likely an audio jack in the chair for hard of hearing people). A direct audio source does not ensure a good quality audio source, as a lot of background noise can interfere. A lot of the times a telesync is filmed in an empty cinema or from the projection booth with a professional camera, giving a better picture quality. Quality ranges drastically, check the sample before downloading the full release. A high percentage of Telesyncs are CAMs that have been mislabeled.

TELECINE (TC)

A telecine machine copies the film digitally from the reels. Sound and picture should be very good, but due to the equipment involved and cost telecines are fairly uncommon. Generally the film will be in correct aspect ratio, although 4:3 telecines have existed. TC should not be confused with TimeCode , which is a visible counter on screen throughout the film.

SCREENER (SCR)

A pre VHS tape, sent to rental stores, and various other places for promotional use. A screener is supplied on a VHS tape, and is usually in a 4:3 (full screen) a/r, although letterboxed screeners are sometimes found. The main draw back is a "ticker" (a message that scrolls past at the bottom of the screen, with the copyright and anti-copy telephone number). Also, if the tape contains any serial numbers, or any other markings that could lead to the source of the tape, these will have to be blocked, usually with a black mark over the section. This is sometimes only for a few seconds, but unfortunately on some copies this will last for the entire film, and some can be quite big. Depending on the equipment used, screener quality can range from excellent if done from a MASTER copy, to very poor if done on an old VHS recorder thru poor capture equipment on a copied tape. Most screeners are transferred to VCD, but a few attempts at SVCD have occurred, some looking better than others.

DVD-SCREENER (DVDscr)

Same premise as a screener, but transferred off a DVD. Usually letterbox , but without the extras that a DVD retail would contain. The ticker is not usually in the black bars, and will disrupt the viewing. If the ripper has any skill, a DVDscr should be very good. Usually transferred to SVCD or DivX/XviD.

DVDRip

A copy of the final released DVD. If possible this is released PRE retail again, should be excellent quality. DVDrips are released in SVCD and DivX/XviD.

VHSRip

Transferred off a retail VHS, mainly skating/sports videos and XXX releases.

TVRip

TV episode that is either from Network (capped using digital cable/satellite boxes are preferable) or PRE-AIR from satellite feeds sending the program around to networks a few days earlier (do not contain "dogs" but sometimes have flickers etc) Some programs such as WWF Raw Is War contain extra parts, and the "dark matches" and camera/commentary tests are included on the rips. PDTV is capped from a digital TV PCI card, generally giving the best results, and groups tend to release in SVCD for these. VCD/SVCD/DivX/XviD rips are all supported by the TV scene.

DivX Re-Enc

A DivX re-enc is a film that has been taken from its original VCD source, and re-encoded into a small DivX file. Most commonly found on file sharers, these are usually labeled something like Film.Name.Group(1of2) etc. Common groups are SMR and TND. These aren't really worth downloading, unless you're that unsure about a film u only want a 200mb copy of it. Generally avoid.

Watermarks

A lot of films come from Asian Silvers/PDVD (see below) and these are tagged by the people responsible. Usually with a letter/initials or a little logo, generally in one of the corners. Most famous are the "Z" "A" and "Globe" watermarks.

Asian Silvers / PDVD

These are films put out by eastern bootleggers, and these are usually bought by some groups to put out as their own. Silvers are very cheap and easily available in a lot of countries, and its easy to put out a release, which is why there are so many in the scene at the moment, mainly from smaller groups who don't last more than a few releases. PDVDs are the same thing pressed onto a DVD. They have removable subtitles, and the quality is usually better than the silvers. These are ripped like a normal DVD, but usually released as VCD.

File Formats

VCD

VCD is an mpeg1 based format, with a constant bitrate of 1150kbit at a resolution of 352x240 (NTCS). VCDs are generally used for lower quality transfers (CAM/TS/TC/Screener(VHS)/TVrip(analogue) in order to make smaller file sizes, and fit as much on a single disc as possible. Both VCDs and SVCDs are timed in minutes, rather than MB, so when looking at an mpeg, it may appear larger than the disc capacity, and in reality u can fit 74min on a CDR74.

SVCD

SVCD is an mpeg2 based (same as DVD) which allows variable bit-rates of up to 2500kbits at a resolution of 480x480 (NTSC) which is then decompressed into a 4:3 aspect ratio when played back. Due to the variable bit-rate, the length you can fit on a single CDR is not fixed, but generally between 35-60 Mins are the most common. To get a better SVCD encode using variable bit-rates, it is important to use multiple "passes". this takes a lot longer, but the results are far clearer.

XVCD/XSVCD

These are basically VCD/SVCD that don't obey the "rules". They are both capable of much higher resolutions and bit-rates, but it all depends on the player to whether the disc can be played. X(S)VCD are total non-standards, and are usually for home-ripping by people who don't intend to release them.

DivX / XviD

DivX is a format designed for multimedia platforms. It uses two codecs, one low motion, one high motion. most older films were encoded in low motion only, and they have problems with high motion too. A method known as SBC (Smart Bit-rate Control) was developed which switches codecs at the encoding stage, making a much better print. The format is Ana orphic and the bit-rate/resolution are interchangeable. Due to the higher processing power required, and the different codecs for playback, its unlikely we'll see a DVD player capable of play DivX for quite a while, if at all. There have been players in development which are supposedly capable, but nothing has ever arisen. The majority of PROPER DivX rips (not Re-Encs) are taken from DVDs, and generally up to 2hours in good quality is possible per disc. Various codecs exist, most popular being the original Divx3.11a and the new XviD codecs.

CVD

CVD is a combination of VCD and SVCD formats, and is generally supported by a majority of DVD players. It supports MPEG2 bit-rates of SVCD, but uses a resolution of 352x480(ntsc) as the horizontal resolution is generally less important. Currently no groups release in CVD.

DVD-R

Is the recordable DVD solution that seems to be the most popular (out of DVD-RAM, DVD-R and DVD+R). it holds 4.7gb of data per side, and double sided discs are available, so discs can hold nearly 10gb in some circumstances. SVCD mpeg2 images must be converted before they can be burnt to DVD-R and played successfully. DVD>DVDR copies are possible, but sometimes extras/languages have to be removed to stick within the available 4.7gb

RMVB

RealVideo 9 and 10 are video codecs developed by RealNetworks. It was not optimized for low bitrates, but to avoid compression artifacts at any bitrate. Therefore it is often used to generate perfectly watchable encodes at bitrates around 350 kbit/s (half the bitrate you usually use in XviD Encodes).

RealAudio 10, Real's newest audio codec utilizes the most advanced audio compression techniques available.

For Playback, you can either use the "original" Real Player or install "Real Alternative" and watch the .rmvb files in your favourite media player

KVCD
"K Video Compression Dynamics"

KVCD is a modification to the standard MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 GOP structure and Quantization Matrix. It enables you to create over 120 minutes of near DVD quality video, depending on your material, on a single 80 minute CD-R/CD-RW. We have published these specifications as KVCDx3, our official resolution, which produce 528x480 (NTSC) and 528x576 (PAL) MPEG-1 variable bit rate video, from 64Kbps to 3,000Kbps. Using a resolution of 352x240 (NTSC) or 352x288 (PAL), it's possible to encode video up to ~360 minutes of near VCD quality on a single 80 minute CD-R. The mpeg files created will play back in most modern standalone DVD players. You must burn the KVCD MPEG files as non-standard VCD or non-standard SVCD (depends on your player) with Nero or VCDEasy.

Using KVCD parameters to create DVDs (KDVD), will enable you to create 100% DVD compliant MPEG-2 streams, capable of playing on any standard DVD player. This will allow you to put up to about 6 hours Full D-1 720x480 on one DVD, or about 10 hours at Half D-1 352x480.

Here's a way on how you can BOOST your upload ratio when you're in the midst of downloading and uploading using your favorite torrent client. So there's no need to run those tools to spoof your uploads on BitTorrent trackers anymore because it's a waste of time.

GreedyTorrent is a freeware software program that can boost your bittorrent upload ratio. GreedyTorrent can help you survive on trackers that enforce a minimum 1:1 trading ratio, and can keep you from getting banned for not uploading. So how does it work? In simple words, it modifies the conversation between your bittorrent client and the tracker, suppressing the actual upload amount. Instead, GreedyTorrent puts you in control of your own upload ratio -- you can define how much upload you want to submit to the tracker.

For example, if you're uploading at only 10KBps, you can multiple it even up to 100 times and get a total of 1MBps of uploads! You can set the value when you run GreedyTorrent.

GreedyTorrent features:

1. Unlike many other utilities out there, GreedyTorrent is set-once-and-forget type software. You do not need to configure settings each time you queue a torrent file to download.

2. No complicated options to configure. The default installation of GreedyTorrent is configured to provide you 5 times actual upload, enough for the survival of a normal ADSL user. Also there is no need to manually find the hash values or to set tracker URLs, GreedyTorrent takes care of them automatically. GreedyTorrent was developed with a novice user in mind, with an easy to use interface.

3. Unlike many other utilities, GreedyTorrent generates no additional traffic. GreedyTorrent does not run or emulate an "extra torrent client", and thus does not waste your precious bandwidth.

4. Only one set of client identification and upload ratio are reported to tracker. Clients that emulate an extra bittorrent client have sometimes the disadvantage that two sets of ratio and client identification are reported to tracker, one from the utility and another from your actual bittorrent client.

5. You dont need to stop using your bittorrent client while using GreedyTorrent. This has the advantage that you can download 24x7, while GreedyTorrent automatically maintains the specified upload ratio.

6. The upload values reported by GreedyTorrent are no different than what an actual high speed uploader would generate. For instance, some utilities can increase your upload ratio dramatically by reporting a very high upload, lets say in the order of gigabytes in just one instance. However, this discrete abnormal value is easily detectable by an administrator. It remains as a contradiction to your normal upload, and is likely to result in an account ban. When it comes to GreedyTorrent, even if you are setting the upload as 50 times your actual upload, the ratios reported are consistent and continuous in nature -- it can only be inferred by the administrator as a high speed upload.

7. GreedyTorrent does not generate any extra client identification, thus it cannot be banned by the tracker. You can use your favorite bittorrent client along with GreedyTorrent, the client identification generated by it will be preserved and reported without modification.

As you can see from the 7 features of GreedyTorrent, it's practically flawless! Currently only uTorrent, Azureus and BitLord has been officially tested to work with GreedyTorrent without any problems. After you've downloaded and installed GreedyTorrent, you'll need to do a little configuration on your BitTorrent client. You can find the guide to configure your BitTorrent clients here.

Just after days Microsoft released Windows Genuine Advantage Validation version 1.7.18.1, now it has an updated version 1.7.18.5 or 1.7.0018.5. Looks a like a bug fixed version of WGA. All 3 files LegitCheckControl.dll, WgaTray.exe and WgaLogon.dll has been updated to version 1.7.18.5. Even Wikipedia doesn't display the latest version of WGA.

Team ETH0 downloaded the latest WGA and cracked it. They released the cracked version of WGA 1.7.18.5 on 26 March 2007 which is 5 days later after they released cracked WGA 1.7.18.1.

This WGA 1.7.18.5 crack does NOT work with Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Media Player 11. Both uses their own wga check that is in their install program. It only lets you use Windows Updates and download from Microsoft Download Center. And also, no more nag screens.

Same thing. Just extract the compressed file and run installer.bat. Everything is automated.

Most of the new features in Mozilla's Firefox 2.0 aren't readily apparent, even to a seasoned Firefox aficionado. Once a user digs a little deeper, however, the new tools and capabilities become more obvious. Phishing protection automatically investigates suspect e-mail, an enhanced search tool suggests additional terms and Session Restore can save the user after a crash.

Browser usage numbers for 2006 are beginning to appear on the Web, and for the first time in many moons the market share of microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) dominant offering, internet exolorer, has dipped below 80 percent.

While Internet Explorer's star was sinking, its chief competitor's, mozilla firefox, was ascending. Its market share climbed from 9.50 percent in January 2006 to 14 percent in December -- just about the time version 2.0 of the browser was released.

When I upgraded from the old version of Firefox, I barely noticed the difference between the two releases. However, after using the new version for several weeks, the usefulness of its new features executed with such elegant subtlety became apparent to me.

Phishing Protection

The value of one of the new features -- phishing protection -- was particularly noticeable during the holiday season, when phishers were out in full force.

Phishing attacks involve the mass distribution of "spoofed" e-mail messages, complete with return addresses, links and branding. The fraudulent e-mails appear to come from banks, insurance agencies, retailers or credit card companies. They are designed to fool you into divulging personal data such as credit card numbers, bank account numbers and passwords, social security numbers and other personal information.

Firefox's phishing protection feature is turned on by default. When you access a site, it automatically checks the URL against a data base of known phishing sucker traps.

Enhanced Search

Another nice addition to the program is its enhanced search capabilities. As you type a term in the program's built-in search box, the browser automatically suggests related search terms for you.

For example, when I typed in the search term "Dr. Who," a drop down window appeared with suggestions for other search terms, including: Dr. Who BBC, Dr. Who series, Dr. Who episode guide, Dr. Who theme, Dr. Who DVD, Dr. Who scarf, Dr. Who Ice Warriors, Dr. Who trailer, and Dr. Who Leela.

Although Firefox didn't invent tabbed browsing, it remains one of the program's outstanding features. In this latest version of the application, Firefox's tabs have been tweaked in a couple of useful ways.

By default, the browser will automatically opened new links as new tabs, not as new windows. Why this wasn't the default in the first place has always puzzled me. After all, why use a tabbed browser if you're not interested in opening links in tabs?

In addition, closing tabs has been made more convenient by the inclusion of a close-tab button on each tab.

More RSS Options

A "session restore" feature has been added to the application. It's automatically activated when you update the browser or add an extension to it. If the program is open when your system crashes, the next time you launch Firefox the restore feature will reconstruct your browser session as it was before your computer failed.

When you display a Web page for subscribing to an RSS feed, Firefox will offer you the option of subscribing to the feed through a standalone reader, a Web service or a "Live Bookmark."

Live Bookmarks let you see feed headlines simply by clicking on a bookmark. Headlines are automatically updated within the bookmark by the browser.

A Web service allows you to see your RSS feeds from any Internet connection. mozilla provides three web services in Firefox: my yahoo, bloglines and google reader.

To go along with Live Bookmarks, Firefox also supports Live Titles. Just as a Live Bookmark will automatically update an RSS feed, Live Titles automatically update the labels of bookmarks. Live Titles allow webmasters to dynamically change information contained in bookmarks about their site.

Windows Vista is finally here

Microsoft's new operating system, Windows Vista has finally been launched globally across 70 countries. This has been accompanied by the IT giant's much awaited 2007 Office System. Though in India the operating system was formally launched in Mumbai on Tuesday, it is already available at the 1500 Microsoft resellers in the country.

Codenamed Longhorn, Vista will be available in four consumer editions and has a host of new interactive features that include a redesigned user interface and visual style, named Windows Aero, an acronym for Authentic, Energetic, Reflective, and Open. Windows Vista will phase out the Windows XP operating system, which has been the operating system of choice for more than five years.

According to Microsoft, the operating system has made remarkable changes in terms of search, security, connectivity and ease of usage. Some of the most significant features included in Windows Vista include an updated graphical user interface and visual style, improved searching features, new multimedia creation tools such as Windows DVD Maker, and completely redesigned networking, audio, print, and display sub-systems.

Vista also aims to increase the level of communication between machines on a home network using peer-to-peer technology, making it easier to share files and digital media between computers and devices. For developers, Vista introduces version 3.0 of the .NET Framework, which aims to make it significantly easier for developers to write high-quality applications than with the traditional Windows API.

The genuine Windows Vista Loaded PCs in India will retail at a starting price of Rs 22,000 while Microsoft 2007 Office consumer edition starts at Rs 6,000. The four editions of Windows Vista that will retails across the globe are Ultimate, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Home Basic and Windows Vista Starter. The Microsoft 2007 Office is available in two editions of Office Home and Student 2007 and Office Basic 2007.

Microsoft expects to reach 18 million customers in the next 30 days of the launch. Company sources in Mumbai said that it had already sold nearly nine lakh licenced editions to corporates. Vista is also available for download from Microsoft's website.

Microsoft's primary stated objective in developing Windows Vista has been company CEO Bill Gates' concern for security. One of the most common criticism of Windows XP and other version of Windows has been its susceptibility to hacking and vulnerability to malware, viruses and buffer overflows. Vista incorporates a number of Digital Rights Management technologies aimed at restricting the copying of protected digital media, and the usability of new features such as User Account Control.

To run Vista a computer will need to have a 800 MHZ processor and 512 MB RAM, besides 15 GB free hard disk space and a CD /DVD Rom.

New features / Changes in Vista

· Windows Aero: a new hardware-based graphical user interface to make Vista aesthetically pleasing

· Windows Shell: Different from Windows XP, it offers a new range of organization, navigation, and search capabilities.

· Windows Explorer: Its task pane has been removed, integrating the relevant task options into the toolbar.

· Instant Search: Search as you type is significantly faster.

· User Account Control is perhaps the most significant and visible of these changes. User Account Control is a security technology that makes it possible for users to use their computer with fewer privileges by default.

· BitLocker Drive Encryption, a data protection feature included in the Enterprise and Ultimate editions of Vista that provides encryption for the entire operating system volume.

· Windows Sidebar: A transparent panel anchored to the side of the screen where a user can place Desktop Gadgets, which are small applets designed for a specialised purpose (such as displaying the weather or sports scores).

· Integrated Explorer 7: It has new user interface, tabbed browsing, RSS, a search box, improved printing, Page Zoom, Quick Tabs.

· Windows Media Player 11, a major revamp of Microsoft's programme for playing and organising music and video. Has ability to share music libraries over a network with other Vista machines, Xbox 360 integration, and support for other Media Center Extenders.

· Backup and Restore Center: Allows scheduled periodic backups of files. It also features CompletePC Backup (available only to Ultimate, Business, and Enterprise versions).

· Windows Mail: A replacement for Outlook Express that includes a completely replaced mail store that improves stability, and enables real-time search. Windows Calendar is a new calendar and task application.

· Windows Photo Gallery: WPG can import from digital cameras, tag and rate individual items, adjust colors and exposure, create and display slideshows (with pan and fade effects), and burn slideshows to DVD.

· Windows DVD Maker, a companion program to Windows Movie Maker, which provides the ability to create video DVDs based on a user's content.

· Windows Meeting Space is the replacement for NetMeeting.

· Windows Media Center, which was previously exclusively bundled as a separate version of Windows XP, known as Windows XP Media Center Edition, will be incorporated into the Home Premium and Ultimate editions of Windows Vista.

· Windows Mobility Center is a new control panel that centralises the most relevant information related to mobile computing.

· Parental controls: Allows administrators to control which websites, programs, and games each standard user can use and install.

· Windows SideShow: Enables the auxiliary displays on newer laptops or on supported Windows Mobile devices.
Speech recognition is fully integrated into Vista.
